Clark and their Potato Party

Clark’s Potato Days celebration attracts eyes every year

Mashed potato wrestling is very real and, dare we say, very ap-peel-ing in Clark, SD. Area farmers grow bushels every year, and the legendary Dakota Style Kettle Chips are created right there in the town of 1,141. So it makes sense to have a celebration of all things spudly.

Every summer (usually late July or early August), the entire town’s population swells for the Potato Days celebration. Contests for potato-based dishes and “Best Decorated Potato” are the norm as are the parade and appearances of Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head.

But it’s the mashed potato wrestling contests that are always the talk of the town. Anyone can sign up to wrestle in ring fashioned from tarps and hay bales. Instant mashed potatoes, instant fun. It’s a truly unique experience in northeast South Dakota. Make your plans today to check out this year’s Potato Days celebration or some of South Dakota’s other unusual festivals.
