Johnson Fine Arts Center
Audiences from around the region flock to Aberdeen for more than 65 university, community and regional performances that take place annually at the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center. The building is home to the main Jewett Theater, a black box theater for intimate performances, and the JFAC Art Gallery. The 1000-seat Jewett Theater is the venue for the full season of orchestra and band concerts and one large musical production each academic year. Guest lectures and presentations are also frequent occurrences in the theater. The 1,000-square-foot JFAC Art Gallery exhibits nationally or internationally recognized contemporary artists, as well as student artworks and pieces from the permanent collection.Joseph N. mapmaker who explored the Coteau Des Prairies in the 1830's. The
Nicollett Interpretive Center displays John S. Wilson artwork and
Nicollet's great map. A video presentation illustrates Nicollet's
expedition and describes the culture of the Dakota tribes. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., mid-May to mid-October. Admission is free.
