Motion Unlimited Museum and Antique Car Lot
Motion Unlimited Museum in Rapid City is the heart and soul of Bill and Peggy Napoli. The museum showcases the antique and classic cars and motorcycles Bill and Peggy have painstakingly restored themselves since they married in 1969. There are toys, pedal cars, pedal tractors, gas pumps, signs, pictures, and thousands of other pieces of memorabilia along with the antique cars and motorcycles. The museum is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, May through October. (See website for winter hours.)Mount Roosevelt Friendship Tower
The famous Deadwood Sheriff, Seth Bullock, built the Mount Roosevelt Friendship Tower in 1919 as a dedication to President Theodore Roosevelt, his close friend of many years. Bullock wanted to create a memorial of his friend’s life and a place where people could view wide open spaces that both Bullock and Roosevelt had become so fond of during their lives. Now part of the United States Forest Service and on the National Register of Historic Places, the Friendship Tower is located just north of Deadwood. Head one mile north on U.S. Highway 85 to the turn off for The Lodge at Deadwood resort. Turn left as if going to the resort but keep right and follow Forest Road 133 approximately .2 miles to the Mount Roosevelt Picnic Area (which has five picnic sites). The Mount Roosevelt Trail is approximately one mile round-trip up a moderately sloped trail from a gravel parking area to the Tower. Operational house are sunrise to sunset, year-round. The Mount Rushmore Bookstores are located in the Information Center, the Lincoln Borglum Museum and Visitor Center and the Sculptor's Studio (seasonal) at Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Educational books and products may be purchased at the stores. The Mount Rushmore Society offers the Mount Rushmore Audio Tour as well. The audio tour is a recorded guide that incorporates narration, music, interviews, sound effects and historic recordings. America's Shrine of Democracy, Mount Rushmore National Memorial features the 60-foot faces of four great American presidents who represent the birth, growth, development and preservation of this country. Open year-round, the park includes a half-mile walking trail, museum, gift shop and dining room. The first phase of enhancements to the park grounds that began in 2019 is nearly complete and the second phase has begun. The second phase does not limit access to the park, and the Avenueof Flags, Grand View Terrace and Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center are all open to the public.
