Opened in 2004, the Campbell Original Straw Bale Built Museum is a special museum dedicated to preserving South Dakota history and teaching about being green the old fashioned way. It is located in the small town of Carthage, approximately 50 miles north of Interstate 90. What makes the museum especially unique is that it is completely insulated with homegrown South Dakota material - 1,300 straw bales - some of which can be seen through 'truth windows.' The gift shop has many gifts and souvenirs that are made in South Dakota, including Corn Cob Jelly and Carthage Prairie Honey. The museum is open weekends from late May (Memorial Day) through early September (Labor Day), but you can visit the museum year-round if you call ahead.
Half of our property at Campfire Cabins near Rapid City is an organic hobby farm, complete with a greenhouse, honeybees, chickens & ducks, turkeys, miniature goats, and a handful of beef cows. We built cabins on the other half of our property, wanting to share all the Black Hills has to offer with other families! We just knew we could provide many fun memories for families like ours out here in such a central location. Campfire Cabins is a small, family business, offering six 300-square-foot cabins (up to four people), six 400-square-foot cabins (up to six people), and a 1,500-square-foot family cabin (up to 10 people). The 1907 Canton Depot was moved to its current location in 1997. It currently houses meeting and event spaces, a museum and the Canton Chamber of Commerce. Wednesday evenings rom June through October, the parking lot is home to the Canton Famers Market. More information and reservations are available by contacting Canton City Hall.
Canyon Lake Resort, a family-owned lodging facility near Rapid City, has 11 motel rooms, six two-bedroom cabins, three studio cabins, one three-bedroom cabin, a five-bedroom house and a nine-bedroom reunion lodge. The lodge features two units, both with their own kitchen. The first floor unit accommodates 20+ guests with five bedrooms and three and a half baths. The second floor unit accommodates 18+ guests and features four bedrooms, each with a private bath. Both units have access to a patio.

Along with the Aberdeen Community Theater's live theater season between March and November, ACT’s Capitol Cinema programming features Hollywood films seven nights a week throughout the year and an art gallery in the main lobby.
