There's a lot to taste in a nine-block radius in downtown Sioux Falls
LET'S FIND SOME NEW FAVORITE FLAVORS

It's not surprising that the downtown area of SoDak's biggest city has plenty of places to discover. But if you love the taste of a good beer, you're in luck. A nine-block radius of downtown features some of the tastiest brews you'll find in the Midwest and beyond.

Whether you're looking for a simple flight or an intense tasting session, Brewer's Row in Sioux Falls is the place to be.

A hand reaches for a dark glass of beer at Severance in Sioux Falls

Severance Brewing Company

701 N Phillips Ave.

NAME ORIGIN: The head brewer left his corporate job and started the brewery as his "severance package."

BEER: IPAs, ales, sours and more -- this place specializes in having something you'll want to taste.

ATMOSPHERE: Hip and chill

ONLY HERE: The "Pints for People" program lets people pay for a beer, write on a sticker who should get the beer, and stick it on the column to be claimed. It could be for a newlywed, someone with your name, or anyone that only likes the first four Metallica albums. You buy, you pick. Someone reaps the reward.

A flight of beer at Wood Grain Brewing Company.

WoodGrain Brewing Co.

101 S Phillips Ave.

NAME ORIGIN: As they used old barn wood to make the brewery's furniture, they realized the name was right in front of them.

BEER: There will always be a wheat, IPA, and stout available year-round, but the rotating flavors bring their own magic, from Strawberry Palmer to Duct Tape Piñata.

ATMOSPHERE: Warm and comfortable

ONLY HERE: There's something soothing about putting your beer on wood that once was a barn.

Three people laugh at a table in Monk's

Monks Ale House

420 E 8th St.

NAME ORIGIN: The name came from the original owner's love of Belgian beers.

BEER: Technically, no brewing happens here. But being South Dakota's first craft beer bar earns it a spot on this list as does a rotating collection of 50 (!!!) taps.

ATMOSPHERE: Super comfortable with food and pinball

ONLY HERE: The beer selection is stunning. It also shares a parking lot with Covert, so you can get a good deal of tasting done by just walking a few feet.

The main room of Remedy

Remedy Brewing Company

401 E 8th St.

NAME ORIGIN: The owners joked that Sioux Falls needed a better beer scene. Mission accomplished.

BEER: 16 taps plus wine, cider, mead and NA beverages

ATMOSPHERE: Rustic and welcoming to thirsty folks, their families, and their dogs.

ONLY HERE: Enjoy the city's first pickleball pub, a live music venue, and a private dock-turned-patio complete with plants and games

Hands grab nachos for consumption outside Fernson

Fernson Downtown

332 S Phillips Ave.

NAME ORIGIN: A smashing together of the owner's last names (Fernholz and Thompson)

BEER: People swear by staples like the Farmhouse Ale, but it's the varieties of Curio (a tart, citrus ale) that appear every year that catch some people's palates.

ATMOSPHERE: Food is available, but this place feels more like a hangout than a restaurant.

ONLY HERE: The taproom is the only place to get beers from the "Seed Series" -- limited run concoctions where the brewers' imaginations run wild.
